17th Thessaloniki International Wine and Spirits Competition 2017
SantoWines at the top of Gold Medalists’ list for Santorini
SantoWines brings home three Gold medals from the 17th Thessaloniki International Wine and Spirits Competition, more than any other producer from Santorini, proving once more the Union’s dedication in high quality and consistency. The great results coincide with SantoWines 70th anniversary, offering one more reason to celebrate.
Gold medals were awarded to Santorini Assyrtiko 2016, Santorini Assyrtiko Grande Reserve 2014 and Kratiras 2002, the natural sweet wine with the impressive 13-year-maturation in French oak. Furthermore, two more Silver medals for Santorini Nykteri 2016 and Santorini Vinsanto 2010 signed off the stunning performance of SantoWines at the single international wine competition organized in Greece.
It is worth noting that Konstantinos Lazarakis MW was the President of this year’s Competition. The Jury included 42 members from 24 countries, among them a total of five Masters of Wine and one Master Sommelier. 757 wines and 26 distillates from 8 countries were tasted.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday 11 March at a Gala Dinner held at “Aigli” Restaurant at Zappeion Megaro. SantoWines was represented by Markos Kafouros, President, Matthew Dimopoulos, General Manager, and the oenological team headed by Nikos Varvarigos.
As always, we would like to dedicate our Awards to our members, all the vine growers and farmers of Santorini that carry on SantoWines’ mission for 70 years now, preserve and protect the authentic traditions and products of our island and validate the power of collective work.
